Cool Coffee Treats for Hot Summer Days

Cool Coffee Treats for Hot Summer Days (Family Features) - Coffee moved beyond the breakfast table a long time ago. Today, people drink coffee morning, noon and night. One of the most popular coffee treats, especially in the heat of summer, is iced coffee. Lattes, mochas, macchiatos, cappuccinos ... your favorite iced coffee drink is easy and inexpensive to make right at home.

Millstone Coffee, a leading premium coffee available at grocery stores nationwide, offers 15 flavored coffees year-round — allowing you to create a refreshing, flavored, iced indulgence any time of the day, without having to add flavored syrups. And, for those who appreciate coffee but not caffeine in their frozen frappe, Millstone has an assortment of naturally decaffeinated varieties that don't compromise on taste. There is even one coffeemaker, the Hamilton Beach BrewStation Deluxe, that not only brews hot coffee, but also features the ability to brew iced coffee (www.hamiltonbeach.com).

So, the next time you're craving a cool coffee concoction, try whipping something up at home. You can experiment with different flavor combinations and even freeze coffee ice cubes to complete your drink. Here are some recipes to get you started. For more, visit www.millstone.com.

1 tray coffee ice cubes
4 ounces Kahlúa coffee-flavored liqueur (optional)
4 cups Millstone Kahlúa Vanilla Créme coffee, brewed double strength

Fill pitcher with coffee ice cubes. Pour in liqueur, followed by coffee. (If made in individual glasses, pour in 1 ounce liqueur for every cup of coffee. Top with a dollop of whipped cream if desired.) Serves 4.

Tip: For a special weekend afternoon treat, make "striped" coffee ice cubes. Fill each ice cube niche with a teaspoon or two of Kahlua and freeze. Once frozen, top off with coffee mixed with cream or milk and freeze again.
