Food For Thought
Protein, Fiber Helps Keep Dieters On Track, Satisfy Hunger

Food for Thought (Family Features) - Hunger is nature's signal for us to eat. But if we're trying to lose or maintain weight, we know that hunger pangs can lead us astray. "I'm starving!" is often the excuse to overindulge.

Research shows that protein and fiber contribute to hunger satisfaction, also known as satiety. That's the feeling you want between meals. Lean meats, low-fat dairy products, whole grains, fruits and vegetables are examples of foods that provide protein or fiber.

"Feeling full between meals helps curb overeating and makes it easier to stick to a diet or eating plan so you can lose or maintain weight," said Howard Brandeisky, Vice President of South Beach Diet® foods, Kraft.

To add even more variety and convenience to your eating plan, many of the South Beach Diet foods from Kraft are good or excellent sources of protein or fiber, whether you're following the principles of THE SOUTH BEACH DIET or simply looking for a nutritious meal or snack. These foods also let you enjoy the "right carbs," which include whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

You can start your day, at home or on the go, with a frozen breakfast wrap or cereal bar. If you need a fast and convenient lunch, there are frozen wraps you can microwave or refrigerated wrap sandwich kits you can assemble at your desk. Or, if you're dashing in the door at dinnertime, easy-to-prepare frozen entrees and microwavable pizzas are nutritious and delicious. Between-meal snacks are covered too with snack bar delights (great for when you're traveling).

THE SOUTH BEACH DIET is a weight-loss plan that encourages people to eat a variety of foods, such as lean sources of protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, reduced fat cheeses and low-fat dairy products and right fats like olive and canola oil. Preventive cardiologist Arthur Agatston, MD developed the diet to help change the way America eats - and the great tasting products from Kraft make it even more convenient to follow THE SOUTH BEACH DIET, whether for a healthy lifestyle or weight loss.
