The Not-Too-Sweet Snacks With An Old-Fashioned Bakery Heritage

In 1922, Joseph Kresevich, known to everyone as J.K., arrived in the United States from Trieste, Italy (which formerly was in Yugoslavia), and went to work in various neighborhood bakeries. He loved the baking business so much that he practiced mixing, baking and researching recipes in his spare time. Six years later he married his wife, Angela, a talented baker in her own right, and they established their own small neighborhood bakery business offering different, authentic, not-too-sweet, mostly Italian bakery items, such as anisette toast, breadsticks and egg biscuits.

Angela spent endless hours in the kitchen, baking, rolling, cutting, and packaging her very special cookies and breadsticks, which J.K. would peddle on the street. Their business grew by leaps and bounds---all by word-of-mouth---one neighbor or friend telling another about the delicious, aromatic snacks with great home-baked flavors. The business grew too big for street peddling.

J.K. found a neighborhood store and the name, STELLA D'ORO, which means 'star of gold,' was given to the business. STELLA D'ORO grew from a neighborhood bakery in the Bronx, New York, to a bakery serving New York, New Jersey and New England.

The product line was expanded and by 1959, STELLA D'ORO had grown so rapidly that a West Coast plant was added in San Leandro, California, followed, in 1979, by another plant in St. Elmo, Illinois.

In 1965, Joseph passed away and his son, Felice Zambetti, took over as Chief Executive Officer of STELLA D'ORO, with Angela remaining active in new product development.

Today, there are over 40 different great-tasting, fresh-baked-smelling products in the STELLA D'ORO line. And what has more appetite appeal than the glorious fragrance that wafts into the atmosphere from a neighborhood bakery----except opening a package of any STELLA D'ORO product?

The Fragrance Appeal Of Fresh-Baked Goods

From the moment Angela began baking and J.K. went out selling their fresh, old-fashioned baked snacks, freshness and aroma were second only to flavor and softness. Today, open a package of STELLA D'ORO---any product---and that wonderful home-baked aroma greets you. The aroma reminds you of when you were a kid and Mom decided to treat the family to home-baked cookies. Was there ever a better fragrance in the world?

Believe it or not, research indicates that aroma-appeal is one of the strongest attractions of baked goods, and that's one of the most appealing benefits of all STELL D'ORO products.

What Time Is STELLA D'ORO Time?

In the past year, coffee houses have been springing up everywhere, which has brought renewed interest in coffee---from a stronger version of the old brew we're accustomed to, to flavored blends of exotic beans, both caffeinated and decaffeinated. From coffee to-go to home-brewed coffee, almost everyone is drinking it, and nothing is better with coffee than STELLA D'ORO.

There's a STELLA D'ORO Treat for every occasion, every hour of every day. Here's a quick look at some of our most popular lightly sweet snacking cookies.

Almond Toast: The distinctive taste of real almonds and cashew bits. They're soft like toast, but they're actually biscuits. Just right for an anytime snack.

Swiss Fudge Cookies: A crisp, crunchy low-sodium shortbread cookie base with a deliciously smooth fudgy center. SWISS FUDGE COOKIES are more like traditional Continental cookies.

Lady Stella Cookie Assortment: A mix of more traditional cookies, LADY STELLA COOKIE ASSORTMENT includes a variety of attractive, delicious cookies created in the European tradition. A basic for either formal or casual entertaining, or an ideal personal reward at the end of a long, hard day.

STELLA D'ORO Breadsticks are the best breadsticks money can buy...they're crunchy and packed with flavor and low in fat.

NEW! A very popular addition to the line is STELLA D'ORO SNACK STIX, which are cholesterol-free, saturated-fat-free and have a mere 2 grams of unsaturated fat per serving. They come in three flavors: Cracked Pepper Breadsticks, Potato Onion Breadsticks and Lightly Salted Breadsticks.
