Banana Buttercream Icing

Description
A recipe for Banana Buttercream Icing

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup solid vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons clear vanilla extract
  • 6 cups sifted confectioners' sugar(approximately 1 1/2 pounds)
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon banana extract
  • Wilton Decorating Tips #3, 16 and 21
  • Wilton Icing Colors: Brown, Black, Golden Yellow, Red-Red

Preparation
Cream shortening and butter with electric mixer. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and banana extract. Beat at medium speed until light and fluffy. Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use. For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use. Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored 2 weeks. Re-whip before using.

Tint Icing as Follows:

2 1/4 cups dark brown (add a little red-red to brown) 3/4 cup brown (add golden yellow to brown) 1/2 cup black Reserve 1 cup white
