Description: Built around 1799, by Samuel Harrison, the inn began life as a tavern and the town's first post office. It is perhaps the earliest and one of the best examples of a brick federal period home in the town of St. Michaels. It was doubled in size in 1872 by Sarah Louisa Bruff and is noted for a visit by Frederick Douglass in 1877 to reconcile with his former master, Captain Thomas Auld, Sarah's aging father. In 1878 she sold the home to Dr. Robert A. Dodson, who maintained his medical office and resided in the home. Located in the heart of the residential historic district near the harbor, the inn is walking distance to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum as well as charming shops and many fine restaurants. Guests staying in the two beautifully decorated rooms are treated to tasty hors d'oeuvres most evenings, morning room service coffee, and delicious full breakfasts cooked to order. No amenity has been spared, from real woodburning fireplaces, to luxury bathrobes, to bicycles, and the hospitality is five-star.

Damaged by artillery in 1862, the home has been graciously restored. Located in the center of Sharpsburg, Maryland, surrounded by the Antietam Battlefield, just a mile and a half from the C&O Canal towpath and 12 miles from Harpers Ferry. Four guest rooms offer visitors a glimpse of 19th century life, and a comfortable base for exploring the scenic Blue Ridge countryside. A full multi-course breakfast is served each day and there are several outstanding restaurants in the area. Bicycle rental is available to guests wishing to explore our three neighboring National Parks.

Nestled in one of the city's oldest neighborhoods is the Northwood/Hunter House, a Victorian home built in1891. The charm of the olden times is featured in leaded and stained glass windows, marble and mahogany fireplaces, inlaid parquet floors, ornate plasterwork, 10-foot ceilings and oak woodwork.

The house was built as a private residence by the Northwood family, who were brewers at the time that Henry Ford introduced his automobile to Detroit. The house became a church some time in the 1960's and in the late 60's or early 70's it reverted back to a private residence. There are still horse-watering troughs in our carriage house.

We have three guest rooms and three suites, all with private baths. Two of the suites have fireplaces and one has a Jacuzzi. You will find each room equipped with the modern conveniences of everyday living (computer hook-ups) as well as the luxuries that make every day a little special. If you ask nicely, perhaps we can even serve your breakfast in bed.
