Description:
The United States Potato Board was established
in 1971 by a group of potato growers to combat
consumer misconceptions that potatoes were fattening.
As a result of aggressive nutrition education
programs conducted by The Board, consumer attitudes
toward the potato have changed dramatically from
that of a heavy, caloric food to that of a low-calorie,
nutritious vegetable.
The United States Potato Board was one
of the first commodity groups to promote its product
generically and to develop a nutrition label approved
by the USDA and FDA.
The Board promotes the nutritional benefits
and contemporary uses of potatoes through advertising,
public relations, retail marketing and export
programs.
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, The National
Potato Promotion Board represents 10,000 potato
growers and handlers across the country.
